How to Prepare for Your First Kickboxing Class

Rest

Get plenty of sleep the night before, you’ll need the energy.

rest[www.savvyrest.com]

Eat

Here, at ILKB we burn anywhere between 700-800 calories per 1-hour class. The worst thing you can do is to come in on an empty stomach. Your body needs to be fueled and energized for an intense workout. The ideal time to eat is about 2 hours before class. If you eat too close to working out, you may feel nauseated. Also, avoid overly salty and fatty foods which can cause you to feel tired and sluggish.

Drink

Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. Limit water intake an hour before class to avoid cramps.

Wear

Tight-fitting clothing is recommended for modesty. You don’t want to accidentally flash your new iLoveKickboxing family!

The Kickboxers’ Anthem

Here’s to you…

To the sleepy-eyed warriors who make the studio their first destination.

To the mothers, fathers, nurses and up-all-nighters who have a thousand places they’d rather be, but come anyway. Here’s to driving by Chick-Fil-A without making the turn, one more time. Here’s to pushing past excuses and towards yourself. For holding your abs when you sneeze because they hurt so good. Because that pain is your prize. For conquering your body and your mind yet again. For whooping your own ass and loving every minute of it.  For unloading the day onto vinyl. For holding plank 10 seconds longer. For marking your territory with your sweat on the mat. Cause you’re a beast and everyone needs to know it. For ordering a salad when you’re dying for fries. For making the drive to the studio without turning around. Here’s to wearing dirty workout gear when laundry is full. For changing your “I can’ts” into I CAN’s. For eventually believing it. For munching on celery instead of chips. For tangled hand wraps and musty gloves. For bruised knuckles. For tasting your own sweat and wanting more. For feeling like Bruce Lee when your front kick was sick and you knocked the bag flat on its back. For sweaty high fives and those damn burpees. For missing the bag and hitting your nose. For treating yourself after a week of hard work. For not feeling guilty when you make a mistake. For remembering you’re human, not a robot. For burning legs and wobbly knees. For the grunts and the shouts as you push the old you out. For chipping your pedicure. For mastering that jumping roundhouse like a boss. For adding a push-up to your burpees just to prove you can. For tripping, for falling, for scrapes and sprains. For getting up, brushing it off and strapping on those gloves again. Because this bag isn’t going to beat itself.

Keep fighting,

Kickboxing Loganville – 6 Easy Steps to Keep Your Gloves Clean

WRITTEN BY INSTRUCTOR IDALIZ SEYMOUR

Keep Your Gloves Clean in 6 Easy Steps:

gloves

Kickboxing gloves add flare to your workout, but they can also get nasty without proper care. If you often cringe at the thought of festering bacteria building a warm, moist resort-sized home in your gloves, then fear no more! I have the perfect solution to help keep your gloves clean and odor-free.gloves2

  1. Mix a solution of equal parts water, baking soda and vinegar in a spray bottle. Spray the solution inside and outside of your gloves. The combination will safely (and naturally) kill existing bacteria as well as absorb moisture and odors.
  2. Thoroughly dry the inside of the gloves with a clean rag or paper towel.
  3. Don’t forget to dry the outside!
  4. Lightly coat the inside of the gloves with a disinfecting spray such as, Lysol. Allow to dry.
  5. If there are any lingering odors, use an odor eliminator such as Febreze.
  6. Leave velcro straps open and allow them to dry completely in a well-ventilated area.

More Glove Care Tips:

  • Use Glove Dogs between washes to absorb moisture. See your instructor to get yours!gloves3
  • Allow gloves to completely dry after every use. This procedure will help prevent mold and nasty odors.
  • Do not leave them  out in the sun. This can cause the material on the outside of the gloves to crack.
  • Between washes, you can leave a dryer sheet inside each glove to mask odors.

See you in class!

Loganville Kickboxing – Stay Committed to Your 2015 Goals!

lkb

Think back to the times of your achievements. The best part of these moments is that they can range from any size: rising early enough to eat breakfast before work every day, filling up the car tank early morning, earning all A’s for one term, running a 5K, losing weight — the list could be longer! But regardless of the size of these successes, they all have one element in common: commitment.

Your 2015 resolutions may have started with inspiration and motivation, but now commitment needs to step in. By possessing this asset, good will happen. It will also bring in other factors to help achieve goals such as loyalty, self-discipline, and self-respect. There will be obstacles, and there will probably be sweat. But keep in mind that the tougher the challenge, the better you will be.

It is still only the second month of 2015, and you pursuing a resolutions goal may already be trialing. You might be tired and discouraged right now, but do not quit now. Take a day or two of a break, complain more to relieve frustration, or anything else. But DO NOT let yourself fold over.

Be consistent, work hard, sweat lots, overcome obstacles, and beam at all the rewards that will come at the end.

Loganville Kickboxing – You Can Change Your Mood!

lkb5Depression. Anxiety. Tired. Jealousy. Loathing. Hatred. Stressed.

How many times have you been stopped by your emotions?

Similar to how scratching a rash makes it worse, wallowing in these emotions harm individuals. We have all been there, letting our emotions get the best of us. Sometimes they get so bad that they suck all the energy out of your body. But as much as it sucks to be told that “happiness is an inside job,” it’s true. Especially on a day when you’re feeling negative, a positive quote like this might make you wince or want to punch a wall. The quote sounds too simple, but the same mind can also produce happiness in addition to the negative ones.

Although emotions are vulnerable to outside sources,—money, people, jobs, hobbies—they can be controlled. It takes practice and hard work to not cave into the negative emotions, but the right kind of influence makes it easier: find a new job, change who you hang out with, and/or attempt something new. Whatever it is that’s holding you back from being happy, you might find the reason when trying to improve your life. By simply making a goal and finding inspiration to fuel motivation, you will be able to treat whatever is going on inside your head.

Our studios help people.

I Love Kickboxing is here to help people blow off steam and increase their self-esteem. With a boost in confidence from reaching fitness goals,—and people will break a sweat while doing it!—they see what they are capable of. And to us, when we see that, it confirms even more how accessible, affordable, and fun fitness can change lives!

Loganville Kickboxing – We’re Here for All Fitness Struggles!

lkb4I Love Kickboxing is looking forward to a new year of being a part of your transformation! For whatever happened last year, let’s make this year the best ever experienced. And for any fitness challenge, we are here for support and coaching!

“To become fit” challenges everything about a person. Not only does an individual train physically, but mentally as well. In fact, what a person thinks can affect what s/he does next. For all those days of tempting to skip work out time or caving into old eating habits, a person also develops mental toughness for every negative thought overcome.

When struggling to go to the gym or a kickboxing class, it is great to try to counteract with positive thinking; however, it is even better when the reasons for the negative idea are solved. For example, detected reasons to wanting to skip exercise include feeling tired or stressed from school/work, having no ride, feeling cozy, having muscle soreness, and/or having no time. Whatever the excuse, they can feed into negative reasons of why someone would want to skip a work out day. It is not bad to skip a day here and there to give your body a break, but to cave in once tells the mind that it is fine to replicate.

Overcoming negative thoughts are not easy, and sometimes it takes every ounce to push self forward – but it will be worth it in the long run!

Loganville Kickboxing – It Would Be Awesomer to Start Exercising Today!

Three things:

1) There are 10 days until Christmas.

3) Which really indicates that there’s 17 days until the start of a new year!

Through all the madness that came with this month, have you been able to put aside some time for yourself? With all the holiday shopping, hostings, parties, gatherings, and running around on top of your regular schedule, maybe everything is slowing down a bit to find time for some personal TLC. By adding a little fitness to your daily routine, your body will benefit from the extra positive energy circulating throughout your veins.

LKB1

When is the next time you will set aside time to exercise?

Waiting until the start of next year to begin exercising is alright and is possibly a great plan. However, the truth about fitness – the longer you push it off, the longer your body will not want to work out.

Maybe you’re deciding on when or how to start. You may also have a friend or two who are also in the same department. Regardless of where you’re at, there’s still time left in the year to start back up again.

Have you ever done kickboxing?
